Your Questions About Coffee And Migraines

Steven asks…
Does coffee cure migraines?
I know it may seem like a weird question and I’ve never known anybody that thought this, but when I take bc powder or Goodys powder or anything it never helps, but coffee seems to work instantly. Maybe I’m just losing my mind?
Joy answers:
This is an excellent question, and the answer is, remarkably, YES! If you look at the ingredients on any migraine medicine, they contain caffeine. I will go into detail if you care to keep reading.
The reason migraines start is because of a sudden dilation of the blood vessels in the brain. Simplistically, this increases oxygen levels, and releases a chemical that makes you more susceptible to pain. Your brain thinks it is hurting, when in reality, it is not. The caffeine constricts the blood vessels again, returning them to a semi-normal state.
Here’s another post I made about migraine and coffee.
