<g:plusone href="http://stopthemigrainemadness.com/blog/migraine-and-the-weather"></g:plusone>

I rarely get migraines now, but I do know that I’m more likely to get one if a thunderstorm is in the air, then I start to feel better when the “storm breaks”. I found an explanation for this that makes a lot of sense – and a possible solution!

Several hours before a thunderstorm, low atmospheric pressure causes the number of positive ions in the air to increase dramatically, to levels that sometimes exceed 5000 ions per cm³. In contrast, during a storm, negative ions increase to several thousand per cm³ while positive ions decrease, often to below 500 per cm³.

So it appears to me that the malaise many people suffer before thunderstorms could be due to the excess of positive ions in the air, and relief comes when the balance shifts towards the negative ions.

What are negative ions?

Technically, negative ions are atoms or molecules of oxygen (or carbon dioxide) in the air that have gained an electron. But what YOU want to know, is how can they benefit you?

Negatively charged molecules of air, or negative ions, promote a sense of well-being for people.’ Charles Wallach, Consultant to the FDA

“Remember that feeling you’ve experienced near a waterfall or high in the mountains? Those are two places that thousands of negative ions occur. They create an effect on human biochemistry.” From the magazine Whole Self, Spring 1991, in article entitled “Ions and Consciousness”.

Negative ions occur naturally in the air and are produced by lightning, ocean surf and waterfalls. There are also electrical devices called ‘air ionizers’ that produce negative air ions. Such ionizers have been used in the treatment of seasonal winter depression (SAD).

What if there was portable and affordable device that would let you increase the negative ions in your environment, and promote this feeling of well-being?

In fact there is – and you can read a whole lot more scientific (and lay-person!) information at the Ionic Balance Shop.
Is there any specific information about negative ions and migraine sufferers? Yes!

Negative ions found to help prevent migraine headaches.

Migraine headaches can originate when an overload of serotonin causes the diameter of blood vessels leading to the brain to dilate, and get wider in the brain. Consequently, blood flow increases, and pain receptors in the vessels are stretched, which leads to the excrutiating pain associated with a migraine headache (Borne, 1998; others). In numerous tests and studies, negative ion treatment has proven to prevent the overproduction of serotonin, and therefore the subsequent migraine headaches (Kreuger, 1957; Soyka, 1991; Sulman, 1974).

Check out the many testimonials from happy customers on the Ionic Balance shop site.

Individuals are now really beginning to take alternative health solutions seriously. Why? You might possibly ask! The correct answer is because they honestly work!

There are so many herbs in the world that are classified as wonder solutions of mother nature herself. These herbs have amazing health and well being advantages that have all-natural healing effects, and can be utilized to treat anything from arthritis and inflammation, to reversing your aging.

An additional reason why alternative health supplements can be better than their un-natural prescription relatives is the fact that they don’t have the same threat of harmful complications.

The beneficial vitamin antioxidants that all-natural herbs contain have the ability to heal one’s body of harm brought about by free radicals that develop as your body’s cells age. Free radicals are also brought about by un-natural occurrences such as tobacco cigarette smoking, or car pollution. Studies have demostrated that these particular dangerous free radicals undoubtedly are a main cause of deadly illnesses for example heart disease and many forms of cancer.

The Major Advantages Of Alternative Dietary Supplements

If you choose decent natural solutions, they should be jam-packed with health boosting antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and amino-acids. A lot of these are crucial for optimal health.

One of the main advantages is their disease fighting capability. The compounds within most of these health supplements supply your immune system with everything it needs to keep strong and healthy; this in turn should certainly mean fewer illnesses for example, colds, nausea and flu.

Below you will find lots of benefits that good alternative dietary supplements provide:

-Encourages complete good health
-Boosts the immune system
-Will reduce bad cholesterol
-Reduces migraine headaches
-Can help avoid coronary disease
-Antiviral agent and antibacterial qualities
-Improves skin tone
-Reverses the aging process
-Helps prevent arthritis and inflammation of the joints
-Improves mental agility
-Improved levels of energy
-Improved
-Psychological well-being
-Helps maintain heart health
-And such a lot more

I could possibly continue on and on since there are so many more benefits. Now, you wouldn’t gain most of these benefits from taking prescription medicine would you?

And So Exactly What Are These Natural Herbs?

Now you might be wondering what each one of magical natural herbs is? Well once again there are really too many to list out, but I am going to present you with a few of the primary ones here:

-Olive Leaf oil Extract Of Green Tea
-Bilberry
-Ginkgo Biloba
-Alpha Lipoic Acid
-Hawthorn
-Horse Chestnut
-Root
-Grapes Seed
-Alfalfa
-Dong Quai
-Rutin
-Turmeric root extract
-Resveratrol supplement

These are some of the main components you can buy in good alternative nutritional supplements, nevertheless the best products on the market will may include a good deal more.

A Word Of Caution

Since alternate health market is large, you’ll notice lots of companies out there who’ll offer products that just aren’t high quality!

When choosing your own products, always ensure that it’s a respectable company you’re purchasing from, that they have followed strict manufactures guidelines, and they continuously fully list the components on their products.

However, I have now found a scientific study on the use of a pine bark extract and antioxidant vitamin combination product as therapy for migraine patients. This was published in the prestigious, peer-reviewed, scientific journal: Headache 46: 788-793; 2006.

<g:plusone href="http://stopthemigrainemadness.com/blog/headache-relief-what-is-triggering-your-headaches"></g:plusone>

Most people think of headaches as a disease. As you well know, many of us have to deal with headaches on an almost daily basis. Changing the way you think about your headaches, however, and realizing they are usually caused by something happening in our environment can help you get rid of them if you make the right plan. This should be done by identifying the triggers that could be causing the headaches you are suffering from. If you get rid of those triggers, you can get rid of many of the headaches and you won\’t suffer so much any longer.

One of the hard part is that everyone has there own unique triggers that are causing their headaches. If you search the internet you will be able to find many of the most common headache triggers. Included on this list would be things like artificial sweeteners, caffeine and preservatives. These things might not have have an affect on our headaches because our bodies and the way it reacts is a bit different from other people. In fact, when you start to investigate what your triggers are, you may find that yours are not even listed on the internet as common triggers. We are all unique.

The easiest way for you to do this is to write down everything that you can about your daily life. This would include such things as, what you ate and drank during the day, how much sleep you got, what the pollen count was and anything unusual that you may have come in contact with during that day. Of course, you should also record any headaches and the times that they occurred as well. This will help you to identify any problems that may be causing the headaches in you.

Many people do find it useful to get rid of some of the most common triggers from there life. Artificial sweeteners, and caffeine are very common triggers for many people and can be removed from your diet. It is possible that you might suffer from short term withdrawal symptoms, but those are nothing compared to continuing to have terrible chronic headaches. We know that if you are able to identify what is causing your headaches, you might be able to stop them from taking over your life.

I hope this information was useful to you.

Those headaches hurt like hell. You know you need a solution. Find up-to-date useful information here.

I found this book interesting and easy reading, but packed full of useful information.

As well as explaining the mechanisms and chemistry that lead to migraines occurring, it helps migraine sufferers devise their own tailored plan which will reduce the impact that migraine has on their own life, and family life.

As well as covering the latest drugs specifically for treating migraine, it is sympathetic to a complementary approach with a definite emphasis on users taking control of their illness wherever possible.

The book takes an interactive approach so that sufferers can take quizzes, complete questionnaires and understand just WHY they should change their lifestyles.

Male migraines

Although three times as many woman suffer migraines than men, this book is unusual in that it contains a chapter devoted to men and migraines.

Of course, female migraine are treated extensively in a chapter explaining the role female hormones play in triggering attacks, coping with migraines in pregnancy, how to treat migraine after the menopause.

Dr Carolyn Bernstein is an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and runs her own clinic, The Women’s Headache Centre. Elaine McArdle is an award winning journalist. Both are migraine sufferers.

I highly recommend this book to all readers. Whether you favour an orthodox or a complementary approach you are sure to find something helpful.

Charlie says:

“I came across a study done on MSG (monosodium glutamate) and HVP (hydrolysed vegetable protein) a while back when I was trying to find out exactly what HVP is. I was pretty shocked to discover that a whole range of flavors used in health foods and vegetarian alternatives actually contain high amounts of MSG, which is a potent neurotoxin, but are listed under different names so we don’t realize what it is we’re eating.

“More shocking still is the lack of awareness of the people in health food stores selling this stuff buy the lorry load, and people supposedly knowledgeable about their health, yet eating tonnes of this stuff.”

This is particularly relevant to migraine and headache sufferers as glutamate and aspartate are migraine triggers for many people.

Click here for the MSG study Charlie discovered, and for those of you who would like more information on MSG, check out this page. (But be warned, it’s pretty scary reading.)

I use this as a very affordable multi-purpose supplement.

I was very excited about the product’s use in detoxification, because I was writing a new ebook for a client. At the time I was unable to give you a free copy as I had granted the supplier a period of exclusivity, but that is now over, and I’m pleased to offer you a completely free download of the ebook, which will tell you more Chlorella, and why it can help to treat a wide range of sub-optimal health conditions, including migraine, that largely arise because of our modern lifestyle.

To remind you of the some of the advantages:

It is an excellent antioxidant and a source of magnesium and fibre for people not getting enough leafy green vegetables. Also a rich source of B vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

The focus of my ebook is on the specific ways Chlorella can help with detox and environmental toxins. This will be of interest to many of my readers who have had a Hair Analysis to check for heavy metal toxicity.

To tie in with my earlier posts on the vegetarian diet, it is a rich vegan source of iron and B12 – nutrients which can so often be in short supply for vegetarians.

It is also a “complete protein”:- one containing all the essential amino acids from which the building blocks of the human body are composed.

I personally use Chlorella as a supplement / superfood to promote my overall well-being and health by detoxification. This is particulary relevant for migraine sufferers. However it can also help with:

Weight loss

Pre-pregnancy health

Anaemia

Detox – including heavy metal detox

Managing type-2 diabetes

Naturally reducing blood pressure and cholesterol

Boosting the immune system and raising energy levels

I could go on, but instead, just click to download my free ebook on Chlorella for detoxification.

<g:plusone href="http://stopthemigrainemadness.com/blog/botox-and-migraine"></g:plusone>

Here’s a potential migraine treatment I hadn’t come across before – botox, better known for its use as an anti-wrinkle treatment.

Dr. Maria Alvarez, a major and a staff neurologist at the Wilford Hall military medical center, said patients who suffer from migraines had reported relief after treatment with botox in the affected areas of the head. “Last year, we had 150 patients and their headaches were reduced in their severity,” Dr. Alvarez said in an interview.

What is particularly encouraging is that in some patients the effects apparently last longer than 9 months, whereas relief due to a “placebo” effect is unlikely to last for so long.

Further thanks to Mr Ahmed Sadiq* of Manchester, United Kingdom for pointing out to me that, since I originally posted this article, botox has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for migraine.
Passionate about his work as well as his city. http://www.theeyespecialist.co.uk/
